The archives here share a lot of helpful information regarding business advertising, so that's a great place to start.
For online advertising, my best results have been with keeping my web site submitted to the search engines; I try to freshen my meta tags and resubmit them about once every 3 months.
Keep a Signature File fresh for ALL outgoing emails and email replies. Participate in as many forums relative to your business and marketing as you can, and keep your Signature line fresh for that as well.
Use link-backs to other sites, but not to competitors. I have 2 friends in online businesses that have nothing to do with clerical work, but we link back to each other's sites. An online marketing pro also has a link to my site.
Find free online business advertising sites too. The Delphi forums have a TON of sites where you can place small ads inside the message forums. Sign up with Delphi then browse some message forums, and participate in some of them; this way you can use your Signature File inside of messages.
