Hi Barb!

I seem to notice that my best responses come simply from good search engine positioning. My biggest paying clients so far have just done searches on their SE and found me that way.

FFA sites don't work, no, unless you have some kind of business opportunity. But most of their traffic consists of other biz op ad placers, not readers of the ads.

Here are some other great free advertising ideas:

Target yourself to getting involved with discussion forums that will reach the market you want to reach, then have a great Signature file that promotes your web site. This way you're getting your name visible as a Pro in your field.

The neat thing about forums relative to search engines - if the forum has good SE positioning, when someone does a search for your services, you'll start coming up as a link from the forum where your messages are.

Find online ezines to place ads in. If you don't already publish an ezine, start one, then trade ad space with similar ezines, but not direct competitors.

Write ads and submit them to other ezines. This is free advertising at its best too. With every article, make sure you have a solid byline/bio with your email and web site url mentioned. Make sure that no one can use your article without keeping the byline/bio in tact.

Ask for reciprocal links to your web site from other web sites, but again not from direct competitors. As your link popularity increases, so will your SE positioning.

Does your location have its own web site and free advertising bulletin board? Advertise there frequently. The more often your ad is seen, the more likely you will eventually get visitors.

It takes time to get noticed, sometimes a couple of years, but this is all FREE advertising. The only cut from your budget will be in the time you spend placing your ads.

Good luck!

Karen
