Hi Pat:
I always charge by the hour. Per page gets to complicated and sometimes people tend to give you sloppy writing etc. If they know you charge by the hour, it will motivate them to give you a better copy...and less corrections.
I hear you because I do business in Maine and New Hampshire and boy a lot of those small businesses are Yankee Thrifts...they drive me crazy with all the nit picking of money.
I would be embarrassed to be that way. All I can say is stick to your guns and be firm!!!!
I had a client that had tons of money and lived on the ocean...he was so tight...I could not believe it. I should have known when he did not like my $20.00 an hour to start that it was a bad sign.
He really put me through the ringer and he was a pain in the butt. However, he did finally pay me but I would never work with him again. My clients in Massachusetts are much more generous and they never bitch about my rates.
Good luck.
Valerie
: Thanks a lot for your help.
: He is coming over tomorrow. I haven't given him a concrete answer as to how much corrections would be.
: He is known for trying to get things as cheap as he can possibly do it. He had suggested $2 a page, and I said my price was higher than that.
: What is the going hourly rate. I was earning $12.99 an hr. in my last job, and that didn't seem like much.
