Hi there:
There are some postings a little way down on health insurance. Karen Farina give some sights to go to. Its under tcg.
Also someone else gave me a number for HMO Blue 1 800-753-2583. Yeah I think people are overinsured too. But I always worry...you may not go to the doctors when you are sick because it will cost you $175.00. That is how much it costs for my yearly physical. My doctor wants it in full too.
You may tend to let your health slide with those high deductibles.
Good luck. I am shopping too because my husband is out of work and the job market is pretty tough so I don't know when he will return. He is 49 so it is kind of scary...we can't have gaps in health insurance.

: I'm shopping for health insuance and just thought I'd ask this question. Does anyone have a good source for more information, or a plan to recommend that is available to self-employed individuals?
: I realize not everyone is in the same boat, maybe some of you have husbands who work and have group plans through their job, etc. In my case, I'm self-employed and my husband has retired fairly young, so we do not have a group insurance opportunity.
: As I understand it, the total premiums we would pay for health insurance are deductible as a business expense on our income taxes on Schedule C. If this is true this makes health insurance seem more affordable.
: We are not looking into plans that pay for all kinds of things like doctor visits, dental, eyeglasses, prescriptions, etc. Personally I feel people are over-insured in that area anyway. Basically we've been looking at some kind of major medical plan that covers in case of big medical emergency (major medical), with a large annual deductible. This would be coverage for major things, like heart surgery, cancer, etc., the kind of things that can knock you off your feet and into very expensive medical treatment.
: Any ideas out there?
