A friend asked me one day to "do her a favor" so that she could "do me a favor". Seemed so easy, save money on long distance, easy for people to make the switch to this company... WRONG! People, my best friends, were very skeptical and wouldn't switch. When I finally got 7 people (mostly family) on board, I discovered how bad Excel's customer service was. Just an awful experience.
By the way -- it IS multi level marketing. The only people who get rich are the ones at the top of the pyramid: the original company execs and friends. And the only way you make any money is to get others to become reps, NOT on getting customers (something wrong with that concept in my mind). My friend, despite all her initial tall tales of how much money she was making, made little and spent more on tons on materials, supplies, ads. Don't believe it that Excel is taking over the market either -- company blowing wind...
I have since stayed true to working with what I know. I run a damn good transcription service, I believe in it and therefore can sell it confidently. I've had rough times, but have learned so much about picking myself up and dusting myself off and continuing on.
A final thought: Do you know what my biggest fault with MLM is? You turn all your friends into potential customers -- and that is the worst thing to do to the people you value most in your life. And the "company speak" celebrates this concept -- it makes me sick...
(Guess I have pretty strong feelings about this yet -- that Excel experience was 3 years ago!!)
