Wondering how those of you with home-based businesses handle growth. I read about TJ's new office -- congrats! You made me realize how important that "closed door" is.

We converted our whole cellar to the office when I started out 5 years ago. However, I found it depressing despite the good lighting and bright walls and artwork. Just being downstairs with only those cellar windows would get to me at times. I moved upstairs "temporarily" while were having some plumbing problems about a year ago. We've had no dining room since! I like it up here because it is so bright and I can see what's happening in my neighborhood while I work. Yet there are no doors -- I go downstairs to make business calls when the family is home. And the business just keeps encroaching more and more on family life and home space, though the kids are gone most of the work day. I assume you share in my experience that the work day is undefined and can run from 6am to 10pm with breaks to "be a mom" in between...

We are having contractors come in to estimate converting our 3 season porch to a year-round home office (complete with a door!) this weekend. Not only will I be able to ensure no interruptions while Mom is working and be able to take business calls privately without having to jump downstairs, we're all looking forward being able to close the door on the business day when it's done and having our home truly be home. And the business being conducted in its own space and at more defined times.

I'm praying this will be the solution to my struggle to balance home/family/work/office and that it's not just some nice theory. Any and all advice is welcome! TIA
