Hi,

I'm new to this site. Just would like to see if I live out on my own planet or if others in the world of business language are concerned about the lack of basic grammatical skills in the general population. I'm concerned as a parent and as an employer struggling to find quality help. When/how did having basic grammar skills and a strong vocabulary make someone so unique??

In our local school district in Western Massachusetts there are no keyboarding classes, yet the local politicians are constantly scrambling for federal funds for more technology in the schools. Teachers don't assign work to be typed in class or at home -- they know the kids don't have the skills. Do you agree that without mastery of keyboarding skills our children are deprived -- not only of the opportunity to go deeper into research projects but of the benefit that the exposure to proper English and business language that learning to type provides? I believe there has to be a measurable correlation between this gap in learning and the availability of skilled labor.

Thank you, I'll climb down from my soapbox now.
