Sorry to hear that your husband had to take a pay cut, I know that takes some getting used to. But it's great that he's working in the direction that he wants to go, and as long as he likes what he's doing you'll probably all be happier. It will be great experience and it sounds like it will be no time before he moves up. Also, he'll be able to add all that training to his resume :)
My husband's first job in the computer industry was in a call center doing tech support for Compaq. It was like a sweat shop, on the phone constantly, few breaks, limited benefits, etc., but as he gained more knowledge it gave him the chance to find a better paying job doing tech support for a national company for more pay, more benefits, etc. Now, he's just recently been promoted to supervisor in the call center and received a nice raise to go with it. He's still got a ways to go before he's earning what he's worth (my opinion), but he's only been doing this kind of work for a few years. This is a great industry to be and there are plenty of opportunities for advancement.
