I need Help!

Hi, I haven't been posting lately due to health problems, but I have received a chance to bid on a project that I really cannot afford to let go by. It is working on a typing a translation of a Galeic dictionary in to English (approx. 1000 pages)with between 6 mo. to a year to get it done.
I've had a minor stroke and a few mini-strokes plus I've developed a seizure disorder from having the strokes, if that wasn't the State of PA is revoking my drivng privilages. So I really need this work. Help!!!!! I need help for pricing part. What is typing a translation worth these days? Should I charge by the word or page?
I am going to ask for deposit of a least half. This seems fair to me. That does everyone else think?
