Great info is available above on starting your own business. A Yellow Pages ad can bring some nice local clients - or nothing at all. You can try ads in local papers, but they don't always work.
Your Internet provider probably provides free space for a simple web page - why not try to design one and then submit to search engines? Can't hurt, and it's probably free.
Getting paid can sometimes be tricky - especially when working from Internet leads. Someone has to trust someone first. It will probably be you trusting that they will pay you. I just never return a tape, etc., until I have been paid. Once you set up a long-term relationship with clients far away, it should be no problem.
