How do you charge for manuscript typing?

A client and his wife have asked me to type their manuscripts and I am reluctant to tell them I will do it. Here's why: I have a feeling they will be handwritten (both of them have poor handwriting)and it will take me forever. I'm trying to decide if I should charge my normal hourly rate, or charge by the page. Any ideas?
